Rameswaram is one of the holy cities in India. It is part of the Char Dham pilgrimage for Hindus.
It is said that this is the place from where the Hindu god Rama built a bridge across the sea to Lanka to rescue his wife Sita from her abductor Ravana.
Some of the popular places of Rameshwaram are:
• The great Ramanathaswamy Temple which is one of the Char Dhams in India
• Agni Theertham - which is one of the 64 sacred baths in Rameswaram
• Ramjharoka temple - where you can find the imprint of Lord Rama’s feet
• Dhanushkodi and Rama Setu
Rameswaram is the closest point from which to reach Sri Lanka from India, and geological evidence suggests that the Rama Sethu was a former land connection between India and Sri Lanka.
