    Modhera Sun temple

    Modhera Sun temple is believed to be constructed in 1027 in Solanki architecture. This serene temple campus is set along the backdrop of River Pushpavati. It is one of the few temples dedicated to Sun God in the country. This ancient temple resembles the Sun Temple at Konark in Orissa. As per the Konark Temple, this shrine is designed in a manner, so that the first rays of the Sun cast on the image of the Lord Surya. This temple was built by King Bhimdev of the Solanki dynasty (who are believed to be the descendants of the lineage of Sun God).

      Surya Kund

      Surya Kund is a deep stepped tank in the front of Modhera Sun temple. This 100 sq meter rectangular tank was used to store pure water in ancient times. Small, miniature 108 shrines dot the steps around the Kund.

        Taranga Hills is on the Aravali range where the river Rupen and Sabarmati flows. It has 12th century derasar, is one of the best preserved temples in Gujarat.
