    Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital, is the biggest and wealthiest city of the country.

    It sits at the junction of the Mekong and Tonlé Sap rivers.

    Apart from the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, the National Museum - which display the artifacts from around the country. The history and brutality of Khmer Rouge can be re-lived by visiting the infamous Genocide Museum and Killing Fields, which serve as living reminders of the gruesome genocide that occurred here just a few decades ago. 

    At the city’s heart is the massive, art deco Central Market; which has a bit for everyone's shopping need.

    Killing Fields

    The Killing Fields, is where the Khmer Rouge regime executed over one million people between 1975 and 1979. Mass graves containing 8,895 bodies were discovered at Choeung Ek after the fall of the Khmer Rouge regime. Many of the dead were former political prisoners who were kept by the Khmer Rouge in their Tuol Sleng detention center (S-21 prison) and then taken to the killing field were they were brutally killed.
