The name Boodha Bargad literally means an Old Banyan and is an important historical monument in Kanpur. The tree is dead but the memorial can still be found at Nana Rao Park. The place was the center of the revolution of 1857 and was the place where 144 of Indian revolutionaries were hanged.

Bithoor is at distance of 25 kms from Kanpur. It is located on the banks of Ganga River and is known as abode of Lord Brahma. Bithoor was once called Brahmavart. According to legend, after the destruction of the universe and reconstruction of the galaxy by Lord Vishnu, Brahma selected Bithoor as his abode and performed a yagna here. Hence, the place was christened as Brahmavart.
Bithoor is believed to have been the site for several episodes of Ramayan. Sita spent time at the Valmiki Ashram at exile. Luv and Kush, Lord Ram and Sita’s twins were born and met their father here and sage Valmiki wrote the epic Ramayan.
Today, Bithoor attracts a large number of pilgrims who visit the Brahmavart Ghat and Valmiki Ashram, which are the prime attractions of the town.
