The Mudumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is a declared tiger reserve, which shares its boundaries with Karnataka and Kerala.
The sanctuary is divided into five ranges – Masinagudi, Mudumalai, Thepakadu, Kargudi and Nellakota.
The protected area is home to several endangered and vulnerable species including Indian elephant, Bengal tiger, gaur and Indian leopard. There are at least 266 species of birds in the sanctuary.
Bandipur Tiger Reserve (Karnataka) and Wynad Wildlife Sanctuary (Kerala) are situated close to Mudumalai.
Masinagudi has turned out to be popular camping and trekking destination for weekenders from nearby cities.
Jeep safaris, Van safaris and Elephant safaris in the sanctuary are the best way to experience the wild life from a close proximity. There is option for guided jungle walks also.

Walking in jungle is possible around Masinagudi. Forest department permission is must for this and its restricted by authorities from time to time based on various factors.
