    Description

    Kurukshetra is a ancient city in Haryana. It is famous for being one of the center points of the Epic Mahabharata.
    According to the legends, Kurukshetra is named after King Kuru, the ancestor of Kauravas and Pandavas, of Mahabharata. The importance of the place is attributed to the fact that the Kurukshetra War of the Mahabharata was fought on this land and the Bhagavad Gita was preached here during the war when Lord Krishna found Arjuna in a terrible dilemma.

     

    Kurukshetra has many holy shrines, kunds and sacred lakes which trace back to the epic ages.

    Brahma Sarovar

    Brahma Sarovar is supposed to be the world's largest man-made pond. It is believed that this is the place where Lord Brahma, the creator of universe conceived the earth. It is believed that taking bath in this holy water, on some particular auspicious days, will free one from sins and cycle of birth-death. There is a large chariot of bronze placed in purushotam bagh in the center of Brahma Sarovar. It is believed that when Duryodhan lost Mahabharta war, he tried to hide in this lake.

      Sannihit Sarovar

      Measuring up to 550 ft in width and 1500 ft in height, Sannihit Sarovar is believed to be the meeting point of seven tributaries of Saraswati River. The sarovar, according to popular belief, contains sacred water. Bathing in the waters of the tank on the day of Amavasya (night of complete darkness) or on the day of an eclipse; bestows blessings equivalent to performing the ashvamedh yajna.
